Brenda Hefter, director of student support services, has exemplified the school’s unwavering commitment to all learners since joining the staff 23 years ago. She and her husband Jesse have sent three children to Maimonides. Mrs. Hefter, who is also director of the Edelman Learning Center in the Upper School, is personally committed to maximizing the educational experience of every Maimonides student. She and her dedicated staff nurture the inclusivity that is a Maimonides religious imperative. |

The action of Judge Doris L. Downs, which cleared the way for our Mock Trial team’s full participation in last May’s national tournament in Atlanta, embodies the broader social awareness inherent in all our extracurricular activities. Judge Downs, chief of Georgia’s Fulton County Superior Court, said she would close her courthouse to the competition if the Maimonides trial schedule could not be altered for Shabbat. “This is a competition involving high school students, and we want to teach them not only how to work hard and compete fairly but also how to respect each other,” she said. |
