Tanya Ospovat

ECC 3-year-old Assistant Teacher

I grew up in Minsk, Belarus, and after getting my degree there I moved to Israel where I worked as a speech-language pathologist and special education teacher while also obtaining my guidance counselor licensure. After about 10 years, my husband and I relocated to Massachusetts, where we now live with our two sons. My older son, Ophir, is starting his senior year of college and my younger son, Binyamin, is entering kindergarten here at Maimonides. Previously, I worked at Solomon Schechter Day School in Worcester and JCDS of Greater Boston as a Hebrew literacy specialist. I am pleased to start my first year working as an assistant teacher in the ECC, where I will be the Hebrew language specialist for the classroom.

I grew up in Sharon and graduated from Maimo in ’00. I received a B.A. from Stern College for Women, where I double majored in Early Childhood Education and Judaic Studies. After graduation, I taught at Yaldaynu Preschool in Manhattan, then moved to Israel with my husband, Ruby, for two years before returning to Sharon where I continued my teaching career at a local day school. Our family includes our children Azarya and Temi, who will be entering 6th and 5th grades respectively at Maimo, as well as Addie and Leora who attend Striar Hebrew Academy in Sharon. I am very excited to be joining the Maimo family as a faculty member.

Grade 2 Judaic Studies

I am a pure product of the “Mamlakhti Dati” (state religious school) in Israel and received my B.S. (Life Sciences, Molecular Biology) as well as my Teacher Certificate from Bar Ilan University. I got my M.S. from Tel Aviv University. During my studies I was also involved in teaching Parashat HaShavua to elementary school students from a less observant background. I taught high school Biology and Sciences for 5 years. This is my second year in the Boston area and I’m really thrilled to have the opportunity to teach Limudei Kodesh here. By the way, two years ago while still in Israel, my husband Udi and I met students from Maimonides in our settlement, Bar Yo’hai, in the Galil. Nothing happens by chance!

US Science

Starting out as a polymer chemist after obtaining a BS in Chemistry, I moved into the Environmental field upon earning a Master’s degree in Environmental Health from BU. During my 20+ years as a Chemist and Environmental Manager in private industry, and as an Environmental Analyst for the state, I’ve found teaching and instruction the most enjoyable part of the job, and most recently have been working as a private Chemistry and Precalculus tutor. We live in Arlington, with our daughter (a senior) preparing for a college career in environmental sciences; in our spare time over the past decade, we have hosted high-school exchange students from more than a dozen countries, which has been both immensely rewarding and a great deal of fun.
