College Counseling

College counseling begins informally as students enter the Upper School. Grade Deans work closely with students to help them choose courses and to develop skills that will prepare them for the most competitive colleges.

In their junior year, students begin to meet formally with their College Counselor, who recommends specific courses of study and colleges. At this time, the Counselor also meets with parents of juniors to begin formally the college application process and to present the College Counseling Handbook. Individual as well as group sessions are held in order to answer questions and offer information on such topics as conducting an admission interview, processing the application and writing the college essay, and planning for financial aid.

While each student is responsible for identifying prospective colleges, for filing applications and ultimately for making the final college decision, the College Counseling Office reinforces this process each step of the way. Please contact Tamar Gelb, Director of College Counseling, at 617-232-4452 x139 or tgelb@maimonides.org if you have any questions.
